In Sesotho, maru means clouds. My late grandfather named me Maru Matsho — “dark clouds.” As a child, I carried the name like a question, not yet understanding its weight. But with time, I began to see what he saw: that dark clouds are not only a sign of storms, but also of renewal — a force that disrupts, cleanses, and nourishes the earth.
This fragrance is my way of honoring that legacy. It also bears my name because it defines my signature as a perfumer — bold, unapologetic, yet intricately balanced. Maru is built around stormy woods and powerful notes that command presence. Yet, within its strength lies comfort — a creamy, gourmand softness that lingers like the calm after rain.
